Hoover Vacuums to Turn 100 Years Old This Year

Hoover vacuum cleaners have been manufactured since 1908, making them one of the oldest manufacturers of vacuum cleaners on the planet. Hoover vacuums have been a worldwide phenomenon from the start, and are so well known the world over, that vacuum cleaner is often synonymous with the word Hoover.

It all started when a janitor and small time inventor named Murray Spangler was cleaning rugs one day and he noticed a large amount of dust. He then gathered together some random objects and assembled them to try to get rid of all the dust, and amazingly it worked.

Realizing that this strange little contraption may have good sales potential, he tried it our on a family friend named Susan Hoover and her husband was so impressed that they bought the patent from Spangler, and kept him on as a partner. And the rest is history, as Hoover Vacuums gets set for their centennial anniversary this year.
